Etiquette with a Twist

Etiquette is defined as a way to behave according to social norms. The previous post discussed ways that a wedding can exemplify proper etiquette. This post shows how the bride and groom can still have proper etiquette, while breaking some traditions and creating their own.

Many modern brides are changing up the way they are getting married from selecting her bridesmaids, to the perfect person to walk her down the aisle. Brides are choosing not only to be walked down the aisle by their father, but sometimes by a mother, brother, both parents, or even going down the aisle by herself. It is up to the bride who walks her down the aisle and in modern-day she is free to choose whoever she wants to walk her down the aisle. She is also free to choose who stands at her side when she says, “I do.” Instead of having a maid of honor why not have a mate or man of honor. If you have more guy friends than feel free to make them your bride’s men. Additionally, the amount of bridesmaids you pick does not have to be the same number as the groomsmen. It is alright for you to have your 6 closest friends by your side while your groom only has 2 by his side.

Another new trend for brides is to let her bridesmaids pick dresses of different colors and styles. The bridesmaids still look uniform and classy while giving the wedding party a more modern twist. Many brides who choose to do this will pick a color and let her bridesmaids pick the style they want or vice versa. dress

Some other modern twists on traditions are the bride and groom choosing to write their own vows, which adds a personalized touch to the ceremony. Another way to personalize your wedding is ditching the wedding cake for something that better fits your style. There are many desert options from having a cupcake tower to having a dessert bar. Instead of cutting the cake you can cut the pie. There are also many alternatives to flowers that you can read about from a previous post that we have done. https://cheerseventplanning.wordpress.com/2013/06/14/traditional-wedding-flowers-or/

Gigi’s Cupcakes

Some brides are not the biggest fans of the bouquet toss. Many guests choose not to even try and catch it, as they do not feel ready for their own marriage and feel that it gives other guest reasons to highlight their single lifestyle. Cheers recently had a bride who did not want to pressure her single friends to be the only ones to catch her bouquet, so she invited all of her guests to catch it, and included a gift card on it. This bride also wanted to keep her bouquet so she used a bouquet of roses that were put together specifically for the toss. Her bridal toss was perfect for her because she was able to keep her bouquet and got more guests involved in the festivities.

Just make sure to remember that your wedding day is your special day and that you get to make it however you want. If you don’t like a certain tradition than don’t include it and add your own personal twist.

Backyard “I DOs”!!

Krissa and Nick were such a FABULOUS couple. So down to earth and so loving, both with incredible families full of  incredible emotion. We are so blessed to have been a part of this amazing day, and are so happy to see what a success it was! They had been planning for a week when they gave us a call, and 4 weeks after that, they said I DO. Nick is finishing training to become in the Air Force and is now stationed in Florida. Instead of waiting until next year, or even the year after that, the two childhood sweethearts (who grew up next door to each other!!) decided the sooner the better! What a GREAT choice they made! The wedding came together beautifully and reflected the exact feel they were going for; a down to earth backyard affair full of family, friends, and a grand ole time. Fun was had by ALL. We can’t thank our vendors enough. Kelly Ginn Photography captured this couple perfectly, and what great sunset shots! The bride’s home and family land (they have lots of horses and many amazing animals-all very relaxed just like their owners) created a stunning backdrop for the entire day! Arlington Floral created centerpieces of wildflowers, and bouquets of wheat and lavender to reflect the theme of the evening, in all shades of purple- Krissa’s favorite! All American Sweets provided sweet treats including a groom’s cake reflecting the main focus in Nick’s life (other than Krissa, of course) and a beautiful cake fit for a beautiful bride! Catering by Me and My Tea Room complimented the feel of the wedding as well as provided bar tending for the entire event! David Eubanks provided the ceremony and reception music, as well as entertainment, lights, and MC duties and kept guests on the dance floor ALL night. A big thank you to Mahaffey Tent and Party Rentals for the great tent, pipe and drape, lighting, tables, chairs, and decor! A job very well done by ALL.

And now for the photos of these sweet people and their very fun friends! Thanks again to Kelly and John at Kelly Ginn Photography!

Enjoy and Happy Planning!

Every bride and groom have certain aspects of their wedding that are more important than others!

For some, a delicious piece of cake is key! It is often the only sweet treat offered and can be highlighted by flowers or lighting to make a statement! It can often become the centerpiece of a reception room, and can be the first thing guests see- and eat if they had the choice!

Gotta love a good sweet tooth!

Botanic I Do’s

Jenny & Lee_391

We are very blessed and grateful to have an incredible network of vendors here in Memphis, Tennessee. Thank you so much for making the life of a wedding planner too much fun sometimes! We are so happy to share this fabulous wedding, shot by J. Malahy Photography.

This native Memphian couple wanted their wedding to showcase the many wonderful aspects of Memphis, as well as “The South” and a successful job they did! Jenny was very detail-oriented and framed photos detailing the couples lives together all over the venue. Her rustic elegance came through with the gorgeous florals, mason jars filled with tea, and classic southern touches including monogrammed napkins and chevron straws!

Many thanks to all of the vendors involved in this fabulous wedding. J. Malahy’s photography stuns and truly showcases the love between Jenny and Lee, as well as the fabulous time that all the guests clearly had. CFY Catering showcased southern flare in all their dishes including mini catfish and hush-puppies, as well as mint julep filled fruit skewers. The Memphis Botanical Gardens provided stunning landscape, a fabulous bar, as well as the indoor ballroom which hosted the reception. Garden District’s florals offered diversity using different arrangements for each bridesmaid, as well WOW-factor arrangements during the reception, AND at the rehearsal! Special thanks to Classic Party Rentals for all the fabulous linens and extras! Music by the Legendary Memphis Icebreakers kept guests on the dance floor literally the entire night and were a huge success!  A beautiful cake by The Flour Garden as well as a fabulous getaway car from Vintage Auto Rentals completed the night’s elegance!

And now for the photos! Enjoy!
